I photograph portraits of animals (household pets and barn animals) in a formal setting reminiscent of historic paintings in the US and Europe. My experience with animals, and love for them, is evident in the portraits, as I aim to capture the essence of each animal in such unusual environments. Dividing my time between Massachusetts and the Low Country of South Carolina (in addition to international travel), I shoot landscapes, seascapes, birds, and animals in their natural habitat.
I shoot both color and black & white with my digital camera, most recently printing my images as large, archival, sepia-toned black & white.
My experience with the Mentorship:
Before taking Alison’s workshop last fall my photography had come to a big halt for a few years. I remember walking into The Alison Shaw Gallery with my friend Barbara, the summer before, and just being so moved by Alison’s work. I also remember Sue being so inviting about the gallery, Alison’s work and photography in general. So Barbara and I signed up for the workshop with great excitement. The workshop was amazing! Alison is an incredibly talented photographer along with being an exceptional teacher! A gift!
The Alison Shaw Photography team is as good as it gets… Alison is such a talented photographer, Sue brings it all together with her expertise as an art designer and Claire is their very talented printer plus! Oh, I also cannot forget to mention Eli, their famous workshop assistant!
So then came the mentorship…and I thought to myself, how great would this be to participate in, and what a great opportunity. This mentorship program has brought my work to a much higher level. The ASP team is always there with the best professional advice and encouragement. I am so grateful to them! I can not say enough about them and would encourage anyone considering the mentorship to take it. Hats off to the entire ASP team!
