Overview
Alison has been teaching photography workshops for over 15 years. In addition to Martha's Vineyard, past locations include New Zealand, Tuscany, Nova Scotia, Montana, Maine, New Mexico, Georgia and Connecticut. Each workshop begins with a review of students' past work, as well as sharing of photographic, artistic, and career goals. During the week, we divide our time between the classroom and the field. The emphases during classroom time are critique of new work, informal lectures (topics include: learning to see in new ways, digital tips and tricks, exposure, color temperature, composition, and fine art prints), and individual feedback. Alison focuses on color and light, and how they can magically transform the most mundane, as well as the grandest of subject matters. Alison's passion for color inspires her own photographs, which she will share throughout the workshop. Most of our time in the field is spent together as a group, so that each participant can receive hands-on help with planning and making photographs on location. Days are long and intense, but also exhilarating and rewarding. You will make some wonderful images — and more importantly, you'll learn to see the world around you in a new, more intensely personal way. You will be challenged to make photographs that have more in common with painting than with photojournalism, to see the landscape through the eyes of an artist — with your own unique vision. Participants can work either with slide film or digital (Alison shoots with a medium format film camera, and also with the Nikon D200).
