My photography defines the way I see the environment around me. I continually challenge myself to shoot beyond the expected or obvious shot. Often I find myself looking at a mundane subject and wondering how an angle or a fleeting ray of light might transform it into something special. I am drawn to strong colors and bold shapes that beg further exploration into their inner story. Equally transforming and thought provoking is the tranquility of muted shades and quiet spaces.

I have learned, sometimes the hard way, that nothing remains the same. It is critical to grab an image when it presents itself, even if the light may not be perfect or the angle is  difficult. These are opportunities to test myself and “work” the situation. Each photograph reminds me of a moment in time – where I was, what I was feeling, and the optimism of the future.

My experience with the Mentorship
It has been SO very important for me to have done this Mentorship. There is no way, and I should emphasize the “no way”, I would be where I am without the Mentorship. I have had major doubts about my abilities but the encouragement I have received from Alison, Sue and my fellow mentorees has been crucial in pushing me forward. In this one year, I have made a major leap in realizing a long time goal – one I really did not know how or understand how, to move forward to realize. I had many doubts during the Mentorship (and still do) but I feel it’s like playing tennis - the only way to get better is to play with the big boys! I have learned more than I ever thought possible from the other participants - and this is a positive that should not be overlooked - the friendships I have made are a crucial extension to Alison and Sue. There is a wonderful comraderie that exists between all of us. For me, the Mentorship was exactly what I needed to encourage me to the next level.
