Photos of fresh raw ingredients, as well as photos of recipes in process, can add appeal and context to a cookbook. They compliment the photos of the finished recipes, and add variety to the visual impact of the book.

In some cookbooks, such as Tina Miller’s Vineyard Harvest, or Tom Dunlop’s Morning Glory Farm, these photos are particularly important to the finished book. In both cases, the emphasis on the farms, farmers, fisherman, and ingredients – where your food comes from and how it is prepared – are an integral part of the story.
